Dear Dr. Denise and Dr. Lauren,

My name is Kathy DiUlio.  I have been under chiropractic care for years.  In May of 2007, I fell and strained the ligaments on my left ankle.  There was a great deal of swelling.  Upon visiting Advanced Chiropractic Dr. Lauren Schofield suggested a laser treatment.  To be honest with you, I was skeptical, but said “what do I have to lose”?  That night the swelling was down by half.  I became a believer.  Then I used the laser for everything.  You see I have chronic asthma.  For years I have had to be on steroids off and on.  After a course of laser treatments I haven’t had to take steroids for over a year.  Now I have recommended laser to everyone.

At the end of July 2004 I came to Advanced Chiropractic because I was in constant pain in the mid back area due to working at a computer. Occasionally my lower back would act up – I would need to take ibuprofen and valium. I had been going to Curves for Women and felt some improvement but I knew I needed help. My x-rays revealed that my head was 20mm forward; there was no curve to my neck (I had injured myself playing softball in high school). My mid back and lower back also showed that correction was needed.

For 40 sessions I came for spinal manipulation and neck traction. I began to feel improvement immediately. Dr. Denise suggested that I sit on an exercise ball at work. It would strengthen the small muscles in my lower back and force me to have the correct posture. I really enjoyed the neck traction. I would feel better afterwords. When my neck was x-rayed after the 40 sessions my head had moved forward 17mm.

I continued to come weekly, then biweekly, and now I come every three weeks. Dr. Denise has shown me exercises to help my right side, which is tighter. In August of 2004 my lower back acted up; Dr. Denise asked if I was driving long distances. I was visiting my mother in Seaford, Delaware (a two-hour drive one way). She told me to move the seat closer and the pain went away.

One of the benefits, which I never expected was to see my blood pressure decrease. I have been on a low dosage of atenolol since 1998. It kept my blood pressure at 120/80, though I still had spikes of 140/90. Now my blood pressure is usually close to 110/70.

I ordered a chair to hold the exercise ball so that I would have wheels like normal office chairs. This has helped me tremendously at work. I am no longer in constant pain. I enjoy working at a computer and now my body can survive it. I gradually built up the hours sitting on the exercise ball because it was a big change for me. Dr. Lauren realized that at first I was sitting too long on the ball and it was too quick for my body to change.

I have appreciated the support of the staff. It is a pleasure to come for treatment. Whenever I had a minor setback (like falling out of bed once) they helped me to feel better immediately. I also learned how helpful ice can be when a muscle is in spasm. I have learned so many practical things at Advanced Chiropractic. It is wonderful not to be in constant pain.

Two years ago I had bunion surgery on my 1st and 5th toes.  The first toe healed beautifully, however after one and a half years the 5th toe still had not healed.  I sought words of wisdom from three orthopedic practices and two podiatrists only to be told I was a “slow-healer”.  My chiropractor approached me with the use of cold laser treatments and I’m happy to say in six weeks my toe was healed.  We actually have pre and post laser x-rays of proof.  I have also had laser treatments to aid in reducing inflammation in my lungs to help with both pneumonia and asthma.  I truly believe chiropractic care and laser treatments are a blessing.

I had suffered from neck and shoulder pain for a while before my accident in July of 2002. I felt a pinch nerve in my neck and it affected my ability to use my right shoulder. I paint airplanes and helicopters for a living so this was a big deal.

I also enjoy the sport of archery. The pain in my right shoulder affected my ability to raise my arm and bow up to shoot long distances.

In July of 2002 I had a severe accident. I fractured a cervical vertebrae. I could not work for four months. During that time I had to wear a cervical collar and had physical therapy. When I went back to work I was extremely limited in my range of motion in my neck and shoulder and was still in a good deal of pain. I thought that life was just going to have to be this way.

Then In April of 2004 my shoulder “locked-up” on me and it was too painful to do anything at all. I had to stop working again, this time for three months. I could not walk fro more than thirty yards without stopping. I could not sleep for more than an hour at a time. I was so bad that my other shoulder started to give me pain and the pain killers were not working at all. I also had a hard time writing and driving…forget about it!

The real killer was I then went to my family physician who then told me to go to a neurosurgeon. I then was prescribed 8 weeks of physical therapy. After therapy I reported only minimal changes so I was told by the doctor I would need surgery. I said that that was not an option for me so he prescribed more physical therapy. Still after minimal change, I went back to work in July of 2004. In august at a follow-up appointment it was recommended that I get surgery again. I knew that I had to exhaust all non-invasive treatments before surgery; I looked “doctor” up in the phone book. I noticed that advanced chiropractic offered cervical traction. This caught my eye because it sounded like something I needed.

That august I started at advanced chiropractic wellness center. After an examination and x-rays it was revealed that I did need adjustments and cervical traction. After a few treatments my neck started to loosen up. I then started a corrective program of forty visits. I started to see a decrease of pain with in six weeks and I had stopped all meds except an occasional aspirin. I was then given a program of strengthening exercises and stretches to perform at the office and at home. I started to feel stronger and the core exercises really helped me work around the aircraft. People started commenting on my posture was improved and how I was shooting better in archery.

Now after almost two years of continued maintenance treatments I feel improved physically and my archery is better than what it was before the accident! I seriously feel 49 instead of 59!

I know that I have three bad discs in my cervical spine, but that's water under the bridge. I know that if I keep with the maintenance treatments and daily exercises that I will remain “well” and have good function levels.

What can I say, this course of treatment may not be for everyone, but it was for me. If you try it, all you loose is a little bit of time. If you give the less invasive treatments time, you'll get better!

This stuff can loosen up what age will tighten up.

Gratefully,

I started using the laser about a year ago for pain in my arm, elbow and neck.   I had extreme pain in my neck and would get migraines often.  After chiropractic adjustments and laser treatments I haven’t gotten a migraine in almost 6 months.  My elbow and arm are great and feel no pain.  Without my adjustments and the laser I feel as though I would not be where I am today with the concentration needed for my day-to-day activities and for the tasks at work.

In the summer of 2002, I suffered from a variety of problems including joint pain and fatigue. I also had been having panic attacks, which grew increasingly worse with each one since April 2002. My shoulders were tight and sore, leaving me always feeling tense and stressed. The muscles across my chest hurt, I had limited movement in my neck, and I was also getting pinched nerves in my shoulders and neck. My doctors could offer no explanation or relief from any of these problems.

My family doctor prescribed an anti-depressant to treat the panic attacks, but it only made things worse and I weaned myself off of it after two months. I was given no explanation for the joint pain other than a guess that it might be Lymes disease and was given strong anti-biotics to take, but they had no effect on the joint pain.

I started going to Advanced Chiropractic in February 2003 and I have completed my first round of treatment. I receive adjustments three times a week and have nutrition appointments two to three times a month. In the 3 ½ months that I have been treated by Dr. Schofield and Dr. Butler I have not had any panic attacks, my neck and shoulders feel great, the muscle pain in my chest is gone, and the joint pain and fatigue have improved greatly. I have also greatly improved the forward head carry that I had in February. I feel great and I am very appreciative of all the care and attention that I have received at Advanced Chiropractic.

I have a rare muscle disease that weakened my upper leg muscles. As a result I cannot go up or down steps. I have gone to a chiropractor for the last 35 years, but I now needed one that was handicapped accessible. I checked the phone book and began to look at offices beginning with the one nearest to my home. I met Dr. Lauren and Dr. Denise at the first address, made an appointment and have been there ever since. Because I walk with a cane or walker, my lower back and shoulders get hard use. It's not long before they need straightening and that's where “ the girls” as my husband calls them come to my rescue.

My husband was bent over with back pain and I finally convinced him to give them a try. It was only a couple of weeks before he was standing straight and much relieved from pain. Dr. Denise noticed that he always sounded as if he had laryngitis and had a great deal of trouble talking. She recommended a dietary supplement, explaining that it could take a month or more to help. Within one month his voice was much better. Everyone noticed how good his voice sounds. Now people say, “Hey Russ! Say something”, just to hear his voice. While before he hesitated to talk at all, now he speaks right up.

It seems as if no matter what your problem, chiropractic and dietary treatments can help if you just give them a chance.

For almost two years I had been going to my doctor, suffering from chronic fatigue, anxiety and pain. The pain in my hands was so bad I could hardly write! While three different medications helped to keep the symptoms at bay, I still felt horrible.

I had always been skeptical of chiropractors, but I wanted to stop taking painkillers and did not want surgery. Finally, I met the doctors at Advanced Chiropractic. I explained my problems and they assured me they could help.

Well guess what? If I did anything right in my life, it was being treated at Advanced Chiropractic! My treatment included Chiropractic adjustments, cervical traction, rehab exercises and nutritional supplements. I have not had any medications (including aspirin) since I began at Advanced Chiropractic. Words alone cannot explain how I feel- it is overwhelming and I feel like a million bucks! The staff at Advanced Chiropractic has become like family to me. Thank you!

I work for a construction company and believe that's where I hurt my neck last April. At first, I didn't think it was anything serious, however, days turned into weeks with no improvement and I seldom could move my head without feeling pain. I stopped lifting weights but didn't see any improvement. I also tried stretching and doing various exercises, but nothing would stop the neck pain.

Then, one day I ran into Dr. Lauren and her husband. Knowing Dr. Lauren was a Chiropractor, I told her of my neck pain and she encouraged me to come in and get checked out. That was clearly the best move I made. After three months of adjustments and cervical traction my neck feels great and most importantly, I have no more pain. Thank you Dr. Lauren and Dr. Denise!

It was a chance meeting that led me to the doorstep of Advanced Chiropractic. I was at the health food store when Terry Cutler (formerly at the practice) was giving chair massages and asked if I wanted one. I quickly said “Yes.” After she finished she told me she felt I had some problems with my back and perhaps I would like to stop by the practice to be evaluated by the doctor. So started the journey of health with Dr. Lauren and Dr. Denise. I shuffled in the door with three medical conditions: Fibromyalgia, a sleep disorder and gastric-reflux. I soon learned I also had a severe forward head translation of my cervical spine. Through chiropractic care and nutritional assessment, my body systems and posture changed dramatically. My body feels more flexible and relaxed. I only have occasional flare-ups of the chronic pain and extreme fatigue associated with Fibromyalgia. I no longer have gastric-reflux. I was also, able under supervision of my medical doctor, to get off three medications. I am now working with Dr. Denise on the Ultra Meal Plan to help change my body composition and lose weight. I recently started my exercise program and now have the ability to perform Tai-chi, a practice that brought so much joy to my life. With Dr. Lauren and Dr. Denise, in collaboration with my medical doctors, I am continuing to improve my health and well-being. And so the journey continues…

I wanted to thank you both for everything you've done for me since March.  I am so glad my mom brought me in when she did.  When I first came to Advanced Chriopractic, I had one vertebrai of my spine that stuck out very noticeably, preventing me from doing several yoga poses.  At that point, I also got headaches in the afternoon on a daily basis.  After just a few weeks, I began to notice a decrease in my decreases and now they are rare occurences, about once a month.  The curve in my spine has improved and I can hardly feel the vertebrai that used to stick out.  After you told me to stop crossing my legs when I sat and to stop standing with one hip sticking out, I also saw a difference in my posture.  When I came to you, I had thought I was standing up straight because I was straight as could be, but now my back really is straight when I sit and stand.  My adjsutments and exercise have really made a difference in my life.  Thank you again for helping me feel better.

Sincerely,

Becca Sayler
